Stop 5: Community Cider

This apple tree in front of you is a Northern Spy, and is used to produce our Kings & Spies cider. The first vintage of Kings & Spies was crafted mainly from Northern Spies and King of Tompkin apples.

Part of our Heirloom Series, Kings & Spies is fondly referred to our as "crowd-sourced cider" as more than 200 local residents contribute their apples towards its production. Proceeds from the sale of Kings & Spies help us support local non-profits strengthening our food security on Vancouver Island.

Did you know ...

The Northern Spy apple varietal was discovered in New York state around 1800. It's known as a dual-purpose apple because it is good for both cidermaking and baking!
