Stop 2: Our Place by the Salish Sea
You are standing on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula, a region with a temperate climate that’s perfect for growing apples. Looking east, you’ll see the Salish Sea, and specifically the Cordova Channel, part of the Haro Strait. Across the water is James Island, and on a clear day, you can even spot Mount Baker in Washington State, USA. Our Cider Garden is a perfect spot to enjoy a picnic with a glass of cider and take in the view!

Did you know ...
Our location offers the perfect conditions for apple growing:
- An east-facing slope that catches morning sun and helps cold air and water drain toward the sea.
- Air movement from the water helps moderate temperatures year-round.
- The surrounding forest provides natural wind protection.
- Our soil is the best of all worlds: our farm's history as a sheep pasture created rich organic topsoil. Below this topsoil is glacial till, which provides excellent drainage, and beneath the till is a clay pan that retains water and nutrients, vital for healthy trees.
