Locally, Sea Cider is known as one of the region’s top attractions, greeting visitors year-round for tours and tastings. The ciderhouse is also a unique agri-chic venue for cider-centric events.

Focus of Accountability

The Operations Technologist works with all members of the Operations team to achieve annual production goals. This is a highly flexible position, working as a technical generalist across all areas of the operation, including but not limited to:

  • Assist the Cidermaker with production, lab and other cidermaking activities
  • Perform bottling, labeling and other packaging activities
  • Maintain and improve the orchard, farm and forest
  • Participate in annual harvest activities
  • Cleaning & sanitation duties
  • Assist with equipment preventive maintenance and repairs
  • Keep timely and accurate operations records
  • Works in accordance with Sea Cider’s standard operating procedures & policies as well as organic and safety requirements
  • Develop and improve processes in consultation with management
  • Act as Project Manager on new Operations initiatives when directed by the Operations Manager
  • Maintain positive public relations and assist with Sea Cider promotional events when requested
  • Supports management, the Operations Team and other Sea Cider divisions

Requirements

This position is well suited for an individual that enjoys hands-on problem solving, physical labour, working outdoors, and pitching in to help colleagues. You are excited by the opportunity to work for a community-minded yet growth-oriented company and have prior experience in the alcohol production industry with a technical focus. In addition, the position requires:

  • Education: Post secondary education preferred
  • Work experience in similar role: preferred
  • Work experience in this industry: preferred
  • Leadership experience: n/a
  • HR management: n/a
  • Stakeholder relationships: demonstrated success in problem solving and collaboration. A proven ability to build and maintain positive and effective internal and external relationships
  • Communication skills, both written and oral: strong
  • Software experience: familiar with word processing, spreadsheet and database software. A willingness to upgrade skills
  • Personal aptitude: a high degree of professionalism, initiative and personal accountability for completing work assigned. The ability to work well under pressure and a willingness to “roll up your sleeves” to get the job done. Curiosity, great listening skills and an openness to feedback.
  • Work week flexibility: A willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and evenings, to meet the needs of the business
  • A desire to develop professional skills and train others in those skills
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
  • The ability to operate a forklift and other production equipment, manually lift up to 25 kg
  • A desire to work for a business that is growing and seeking to continually improve
